Sponsorship
If I sponsor a child, what can I expect to receive?
Initially, you will be sent a case study together with a
photograph of the child who will benefit. Thereafter, you will
receive a photograph of the child and an annual report from the
project. Further communication from the child may be received during
the year, depending on the resources available.
Can I write to the child I sponsor?
Yes, we hope that sponsors will send brief notes, postcards and
photographs to their sponsored child. These items are warmly
welcomed by the children and are proudly shared with their family
and friends. Please address correspondence to the child, c/o The Joe
Homan Charity (India), the address is on our
Contact Us page.
Can I send gifts
to the child I sponsor?
You may also send gifts, but we request that you only send small
(inexpensive) items or things that can be shared by all the children
in the project. All gifts should be sent via our
India office in Dindigul.
Can I visit my
sponsored child?
Yes, you may visit the child you sponsor, but this must be arranged
through our office, who will ensure that your planned visited is
convenient.
How long do I have
to sponsor for?
For whatever length of time suits you, although obviously we hope
sponsors will wish to help a child for as long as possible. You may
cancel your sponsorship at any time, although it helps us if you are
able to warn us in advance in order that we may seek an alternative
sponsor for the child.
What happens when
the child I sponsor leaves the project?
Once a child has completed his/her education/training they are no
longer eligible for sponsorship. At this time we will advise the
sponsor and offer an alternative child to support.
How much does it cost to sponsor a Child?
We seek £180 to support one of the youngsters in a residential Boys
or Girls Town in India or Thailand, or in one of the Children’s
Villages. Within the Child Labour Prevention Scheme, £70 a year will
sponsor a child’s secondary education, compensate their family for
any loss of earnings, and also provide two calves for each child’s
family over the five year period of the scheme.
Volunteers
I am retired – can I still be a volunteer?
Yes, we welcome mature volunteers, although a reasonable degree of
mobility is required as visits to rural projects are often as a
pillion passenger on a motorbike.
Talks
Do you give talks?
Yes, we have a good number of volunteer speakers, all of whom are
well-informed about the projects. Please contact our
Peterborough office who will be pleased to
put you in touch with a speaker near you.
