Below are a few frequently asked questions (FAQs), which might help to answer a few of yours. If they don’t please get contact us, we’re always happy to answer your questions.
If I sponsor a child, what can I expect to receive? Initially, you will be sent a child profile together with a photograph of the child who will benefit. Thereafter, you will receive a photograph of the child and an annual report from the project. Further communication from the child may be received during the year, depending on the resources available.
Can I write to the child I sponsor? Yes, we hope that sponsors will send brief notes, postcards and photographs and emails to their sponsored child. These items are warmly welcomed by the children and are proudly shared with their family and friends. Address here.
Can I send gifts to the child I sponsor? You may also send gifts, but we request that you only send small (inexpensive) items or things that can be shared by all the children in the project. Address here.
Can I visit my sponsored child? Yes, you may visit the child you sponsor, but this must be arranged through our office, who will ensure that your planned visited is convenient.
How long do I have to sponsor for? For whatever length of time suits you, although obviously we hope sponsors will wish to help a child for as long as possible. You may cancel your sponsorship at any time, although it helps us if you are able to warn us in advance in order that we may seek an alternative sponsor for the child.
What happens when the child I sponsor leaves the project? Once a child has completed his/her education/training they are no longer eligible for sponsorship. At this time we will advise the sponsor and offer an alternative child to support.
I am retired – can I still be a volunteer? Yes, we welcome mature volunteers, although a reasonable degree of mobility is required as visits to rural projects are often as a pillion passenger on a motorbike.
Do you give talks? Yes, we have a good number of volunteer speakers, all of whom are well-informed about the projects. Please contact our Peterborough office who will be pleased to put you in touch with a speaker near you.
